Description: A brass plaque is affixed to the front of the monument, inscribed: "This Monument Was Erected In 1913 By ~ Civil War Veterans At Jetmore And ~ Dedicated To Their Unknown Dead. The Last Survivor Died In 1936. Their Work ~ Has Been Finished: Call To Quarters Has ~ Sounded And Taps Have Been Finally ~ Blown. No Sentry Is Left To Stand Vigil ~ Over The Sleeping Veterans Whose ~ Valorous Deeds, Undaunted Courage, ~ And Hardships Of War Gave Us The ~ Nation Indivisible That We Enjoy Today. ~ This Plaque Contributed By ~ Chester Hawkins Post No. 290 American ~ Legion, Jetmore, Kansas ~ July 29, 1955 ~ Roy Chipman, Jr., Commander".
